10 Horrific Movie Deaths That Had To Be Cut Out

1. Event Horizon - Uncut Crew Log

Event Horizon
Paramount Pictures

While horror usually thrives in the low-budget arena, Event Horizon is one of the few expensive horror movies to be genuinely creepy. Paul W.S. Anderson’s sci-fi chiller has a rescue them investigate an abandoned spaceship, and finding the ship has literally brought hell back with it.

While the movie is still gory – with eye gouging and dismemberment aplenty – the original cut was positively drowning in grue. Anderson showed a rough cut to a test audience who were utterly horrified by the hellish violence and gave it negative feedback. The studio was furious and insisted Anderson cut the gore way back; in the final cut, most of it is seen through quick flashes.

The scene that suffered the most is the video showing what happened to the original crew. The uncut video shows the group tearing themselves – and each other – apart. The “highlights” included a man ripping his guts out through his mouth, a woman getting her breasts torn off and another having screws drilled into her gums; ewww.

The deleted footage has been lost since it was stored in a salt mine, but the hunt for a workprint copy still continues.

Do you know of any other movie demises that had to be cut or trimmed because they were too gruesome? Share them with us in the comments.
