Finally, we come to The Terminator. While most regard the franchise today as mostly action-focused, the first entry was a darker entry with more horror elements. Much like the slasher villains of the time, Arnold Schwarzenegger's iconic role saw him towering over the weaker humans throughout the runtime.

As an infiltration unit, the T-800 Terminator has one mission: to execute its target at the behest of Skynet.

While the T-800 appears human, its core is calculating and relentless. It will not stop, ever, until it completes its objective - and the audience is shown this right from the offset of this 1984 classic.

The first kill of the entire franchise is one of its most gruesome. With the Terminator needing some clothes to blend in with humanity, he confronts a group of punks hanging out at an LA observatory. The T-800 quickly overpowers them, knocking one against the railings. When another pulls out his knife, he's easily lifted off the ground.

Punching its way inside the unlucky victim, the machine brutally tears out the man's heart to kill him instantly. Knowing the T-800 would have to make its debut with a shocking kill, James Cameron ensured its unfeeling nature was conveyed immediately. We knew right away that the titular character was one to be feared.
