2. The Hanging Woman Is Oscar's Mother - Halloween Ends

Following Halloween Ends' grim opening sequence, one of the first sights we see is a montage of Haddonfield residents who've succumbed to the fear pervading the town in Michael Myers' (James Jude Courtney) wake and committed suicide.

Perhaps the most memorable image is of a middle-aged woman hanging from her roof, with a bedsheet tied around her neck as a noose.

Due to the low lighting in the scene, audiences likely won't realise that this is in fact a character who previously appeared in Halloween Kills, played by Holli Saperstein.

She played the mother of Oscar (Drew Scheid), the comic relief best friend of Alyson's (Andi Matichak) boyfriend Cameron (Dylan Arnold), who was killed in Halloween 2018 when Michael impaled him on a metal fence.

In Halloween Kills, we saw Oscar's mother desperately searching for her son at Haddonfield Memorial Hospital, before walking past a room where his brutalised corpse was on full display, causing her to break down.

Evidently she failed to get over her son's death in the three years between Kills and Ends, as she ultimately commits suicide.

To make it even more heartbreaking, if you look closely she's also wearing the very same Halloween costume that Oscar wore on the night of his fateful encounter with Michael Myers.

As divisive as Halloween Ends may be, that's a brilliantly excruciating detail on the part of writer-director David Gordon Green.
