10 Horror Actors Forced Into Roles They Never Wanted

9. Rooney Mara - A Nightmare On Elm Street (2010)

The character of Nancy is considered one of the most recognizable aspects of A Nightmare On Elm Street. Played by Heather Langenkamp in the 1984 original, she was the first person to beat Freddy Krueger. The actress would then reprise the role in A Nightmare On Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors and play herself in Wes Craven's New Nightmare.

So, when the time came for the 2010 Elm Street remake, you'd think that getting the part of Nancy would be a huge honor. Rooney Mara thought otherwise.

The future Oscar-nominated actress took on the role of Nancy in one of her first mainstream performances. She later admitted, however, that she did not want the part and even tried to sabotage her audition. Her attempts failed because her screen test impressed the filmmakers and earned her the role.

Upon viewing A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010), you can really tell that Mara really didn't want to be there. While actors like Jackie Earle Haley and Kyle Gallner are doing their best with the material, Rooney Mara occasionally sounds bored and phones in most of her lines.
