10 Horror Anthologies You Must See Before You Die
4. Trilogy Of Terror
Made for TV movies aren’t exactly known for their quality but one rare exception to that rule is director Dan Curtis’ horror anthology Trilogy of Terror featuring three tales adapted from unrelated short stories by writer Richard Matheson of I Am Legend fame.
Actress Karen Black, who you might recognise as the original Mother Firefly from Rob Zombie’s House of 1000 Corpses, stars in all three segments as three different women tormented by various beings – a date rapist, an evil twin sister (also played by Black) and a freaky-looking Zuni fetish doll.
A tour de force of TV movie horror with a crazy good performance from Black to boot, it’s no surprise that Trilogy of Terror has gathered something of a cult following since it first aired back in 1975.
Standout Segment:
Trilogy of Terror’s concluding segment ‘Amelia’ is without a doubt its most iconic. Black plays the titular young woman who purchases a tiny but terrifying Zuni warrior doll that subsequently comes to life and terrorises her in the confines of her claustrophobic high-rise apartment in one of the best killer doll horrors out there.
