10 Horror Characters We ALL Foolishly Thought Had Got Away

1. Vanderohe - Army Of The Dead

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre The Beginning

Zach Snyder’s recent zombie romp featured quite a few characters that we thought were going to survive, and it did admittedly come as quite a shock when only two characters were still breathing at the end of the film.

One of these two, however, only gives us a brief moment of hope before we realise he too is doomed. Vanderohe was earlier saved from a zombie horde when safe-cracker Dieter shoved him into the vault before being dragged away himself.

We had almost forgotten about Vanderohe, assuming he would just have died down there of suffocation or from the blast or whatever. Instead at the end of the film we see him emerging, wading through the nuclear wasteland and making his way to civilisation.

As nonsensical as this survival is (hello, radiation poisoning?), we were briefly ready to accept that he had survived and would be the only character to have a truly happy ending. However, as it becomes clearer and clearer that he’s sick that hope is dashed away - finally it’s revealed that he is bitten and consequently is gonna join his crewmates in the afterlife pretty soon. Too bad.
