10 Horror Characters We ALL Foolishly Thought Had Got Away

9. Denise - House of 1000 Corpses

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre The Beginning

House of 1000 Corpses is one wild ride. When director Rob Zombie was pitching it to studios, he described his vision as “gritty, nasty and weird” and he sure delivered on that. After a thoroughly strange first hour, things are not looking good for our remaining characters.

By the end we’re slimmed our survivors down to just one: Denise. We thought we had found our final girl and that she would be able to stumble her way to safety. She makes her way out onto the road where she is offered a ride by Captain Spaulding, and this is where the doubt kicks in.

As the audience, we already know accepting a ride from that guy is a bad idea. It gets even worse when, as she passes out, the murderous Otis appears in the back seat.

Any hope of her having tuck-and-rolled out of the car and to safety is dashed by the film’s closing shot in which we see Denise wake up strapped to a table. She’s surrounded by the evil Dr Satan (fittingly named, I must say) and his assistant, whom previously tried to murder her. This time it seems they’ll be successful. Sorry Denise!
