10 Horror Characters Who Wished They Were Dead

6. David - The Mist (2007)

The Human Centipede First Sequence Lindsay

Based on the novella of the same name by horror legend Stephen King, The Mist sees the unassuming small town of Bridgton, Maine become enveloped in a mysterious mist that has brought with it a horde of monsters.

As the mist rolls in, Davd (Thomas Jane) and his son (Nathan Gamble) take shelter in the local supermarket. As the townsfolk struggle to make sense of what’s happening as they witness the nightmarish creatures outside, a schism forms amongst them and tribalism kicks in. Escalated by a religious fervour that grips the group, tensions continue to rise while the creatures start to pick them off.

However, it’s only when David and his small band of followers are allowed to leave the supermarket where he understands the real tragedy of his situation. With a sense of utter hopelessness after realising his wife and daughter are dead, David does what he believes to be the kindest thing and kills his son alongside his remaining friends.

But as he waits for the creatures to end his own life, the mist clears to reveal the military have started to fight back.

In a soul-crushing bout of dramatic irony, David is now forced to live with his actions.
