10 Horror Films Ruined by WTF Endings
1. 28 Years Later
28 Days Later played a huge role in reviving the zombie genre, thanks to its grounded approach and character-focused story. For this reason, the last thing anyone wanted from 28 Years Later is to play it safe.
Although the long-gestating sequel was anything but formulaic, that's not necessarily a good thing. The third instalment, helmed by the director of 28 Days Later, Danny Boyle, has some questionable moments - the biggest of course being the ending.
Just as it looks like things are wrapping up, our teenage protagonist, Spike, is cornered by The Infected.
Before he's overwhelmed, Spike is saved by a kung-fu gang called The Jimmys, based on deceased media personality and sexual predator, Jimmy Saville. The movie abruptly ends, with The Jimmys set to play a pivotal role in the follow-up.
Despite the fact Boyle believes this scene "is the most original piece of writing I’ve seen since Clockwork Orange", having tracksuit-wearing martial artists somersaulting around the Infected and slicing them up with video game weapons just a few minutes after the film's emotional crescendo was a terrible bit of whiplash.
Though it's yet to be revealed exactly where this sub-plot is going, the way The Jimmys are introduced feels like it's from a totally different movie.
