10 Horror Films Ruined by WTF Endings

9. The Forgotten

The Forgotten
Columbia

In The Forgotten, Julianne Moore plays Telly Paretta, a mother who's dealing with the loss of her son, Sam. One day, evidence of Sam disappears and her husband tells Telly he never existed. But when Telly finds clues that Sam is alive, she begins to question everything she's ever known.

Due to the riveting premise, The Forgotten should've been a psychological drama that keeps viewers guessing, since it's hard to tell what's real or who to trust until the end. And when people and houses start being sucked into the sky, viewers should be desperate to learn the truth.

Although the story is intriguing for the first hour or so, it concludes with the dumbest explanation possible. Basically, the amnesia and Sam's disappearance were orchestrated by aliens. What's worse is there's no further elaboration. No explanation is given why visitors from another world flew a million light years to Earth to make a group of people forget a child existed.

This reveal also doesn't work since The Forgotten plays out like a suspenseful thriller until the third act, when it veers into full-blown sci-fi.

This dud showed a lot of promise, but it's best left forgotten thanks to its half-baked ending.
