10 Horror Final Girls Who Didn't Survive Their Movie

8. Carrie White - Carrie

Leatherface Movie
Warner Bros. Pictures

Poor Carrie White. Bullied by her school and abused by her mother, she struggles to control her burgeoning psychic powers whilst attempting to fit in at high school - and so we have an already wildly messy melting pot of problems being bought to boiling point. And that is quite literal by the time of the film's close.

Continuously ridiculed and put down, Carrie is the picture of a meek young woman who will be shaped by the movie's horrors into the last person standing, but instead, she's broken down to the point of no return - instigating 'The Black Prom' and burning her classmates alive in vengeance. Embracing her newfound power as a bastardised version of the Final Girl, she returns to her mother for them both to die in whirlwind blaze of her own creation. Jeez. They really didn't let up with this one.

Carrie White should have been our Final Girl by all normal genre trappings, but she's turned into a tragic villain instead, subverted beyond recognition. All that remains of her legacy is nightmares.
