It may have taken 18 years, but we're finally getting a new 28 Fill-in-the-Blank Later movie in 2025.

Following in the footsteps of 2002's 28 Days Later and 2007's 28 Weeks Later, it goes without saying that the arrival of 28 Years Later in June is a huge moment for the series. Not just that, but Danny Boyle, Alex Garland, and Anthony Dod Mantle - the respective director, writer, and cinematographer of the original film - are back in the saddle once again, with 28 Years Later being the launching point for a new trilogy. Cillian Murphy is reprising his Jim role from 28 Days Later, and he's joined by quite the impressive ensemble, including Jodie Comer, Ralph Fiennes, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Jack O'Connell.

The massive disappointment at the aforementioned The Strangers: Chapter 1 shows how important it is to stick the landing when it comes to the first leg of a new trilogy, with there now a shoulder-shrug response to The Strangers: Chapter 2 being on the horizon. And much like The Strangers, that second new 28 film has already been shot, with 28 Years Later Part II: The Bone Temple filmed back-to-back with 28 Years Later.

Simply put, 28 Years Later needs to be good. Not only for the future of this new trilogy but, just as importantly, for those long-time fans who've anxiously spent 18 years wishing this picture into existence.
