For casual horror fans, you may be forgiven for thinking the Friday the 13th franchise is still tangled up in a bunch of legal issues which prevent any new projects for the iconic property. However, thankfully those problems have now been cleared up - or at least agreed to disagree on - and the beloved IP can now move forward with new content.

Previously, original Friday the 13th director Sean S. Cunningham and that film's screenwriter Victor Miller were embroiled in a legal battle over the rights to the franchise. With that battle having now been settled, Jason Voorhees will finally be rearing his hockey mask-adorned head once more, with a F13 TV series currently in development and hopeful of a late-2024 premiere.

Titled Crystal Lake, this show is being developed for Peacock by Hannibal's Bryan Fuller and A24, with Miller on board as an executive producer. When it comes to characters, settings, and other staples of the franchise, Fuller has confirmed that "everything" is on the table for Crystal Lake, whilst he's also promised that we'll see "many familiar manifestations of Jason" across the series.

Adrienne King is the only confirmed cast member as of writing, with it currently unknown whether King will be reprising her Alice Hardy role - the sole survivor of the first film, killed off in the second film's opening scene - or playing a completely new role.

Away from Crystal Lake, Sean S. Cunningham is exploring options for a new Friday the 13th movie which would act as a direct sequel to the 1980 original.
