Black Box focuses on Nolan, who's suffering from amnesia after being involved in a car crash that killed his wife. His daughter Ava has been helping him to recuperate, but his memories only deteriorate further and further.

He seeks the help of Doctor Lilian Brooks, who introduces him to the Black Box, a device that will aid him in recovering what he's lost. On the one hand the meeting could be considered a success, as after this he immediately begins to see things from the past. On the other it's a huge failure, as he discovers that these memories do not belong to him.

Enter Thomas Brooks.

Following a violent confrontation with his wife, Dr. Brooks' son Thomas has existed in limbo for two years with his mind stored inside the Black Box. His body has long since decayed, but the good doctor is simply unable to let him go. She takes advantage of Nolan's desperation and implants her son into his body, however through a combination of dramatic struggle and good old-fashioned 'doing the right thing', Nolan overcomes Thomas.

Brooks is exposed and fired, Nolan returns intact to Ava and, finally, they become a happy family again.

Well, for now...

The film closes on a scene of Brooks at her table - revealing that Thomas's mind has been blocked from any sort of peace, and is stored once again in the computer. The closing shot of her face shows that she has not given up on him at all.
