8. The Owners - Jane & Thomas Are Locked In The Safe

The Owners is not an amazing movie, but it does have some solid ideas and a few tricks up its sleeve. It follows a group of good-for-nothings who decide to break into an older couple's home in an effort to secure a big cash score.

Mary, played by Maisie Williams, follows just as a tag-along initially, goaded by her boyfriend Nathan, but becomes directly involved when the couple, Richard and Ellen, return home.

The gang force the pair into the basement and viciously threaten to lop off their fingers if they don't open the safe. It seems pretty cut and dry that this older couple is in for a certified bad time.

Then the film does an abrupt 180.

Infighting leads to one robber, Gaz, stabbing Nathan, and in retaliation Mary kills Gaz. Richard, a doctor, promises to save the bleeding out Nathan, but then turns on his remaining captors as soon as they free him, proving the criminals have gravely underestimated who they're messing with.

It turns out Mary's twin sister, Jane, had gone missing several months before the botched robbery. Nobody knows where she went, except Richard and Ellen, who have been holding Jane captive, dressed as their dead daughter, inside the safe in the basement of the house(!). Even worse, she's just one of many young women kidnapped and killed by the couple over the years.

Mary finds this out in her dying moments, while the one remaining robber, Terry, is also placed in the safe with Jane, leaving the pair trapped in the house, unable to escape and with no evidence they were ever there.
