10 Horror Movie Actors Who HATED Their Own Performances

6. Jennifer Lawrence - Mother!

The Witch
Paramount Pictures

Darren Aronofsky's mother! is a film that certainly split opinion upon its release, and it's a film that seemingly took star Jennifer Lawrence some time to get used to watching.

In an interview with Variety, Lawrence explained how a first watch of mother! made her uncomfortable:

"I was really shaken. My first reaction [to seeing the movie] was that we took if too far."

While that first impression of her performance and the film itself was a negative one, the Oscar winner did start to appreciate what Aronofsky was trying to do with mother! - following up those comments with:

"After the images died down a little bit, it's exactly what we're supposed to be doing and what we need to be doing. We have a message, and if we watered it down to make people comfortable then what's the point? Why even make it?"

Plot-wise, mother! features Lawrence as the homemaker muse of her poet beau Him (Javier Bardem). When the mysterious Man (Ed Harris), Woman (Michelle Pfeiffer), their sons and more arrive at Mother and Him's house, things take a turn for the weird.

Some think that mother! is a masterpiece of metaphors, others think it's overly-pretentious guff - hence why the movie hugely split critical opinion upon its release.
