10 Horror Movie Characters Who Did Everything Right And Still Failed

Considering the utterly unhinged circumstances they're faced with, most of the protagonists of the Final Destination franchise actually make a strong effort to ensure their own survival - but of course, they all get claimed by Death eventually.

In the first film, Alex (Devon Sawa) and Carter (Kerr Smith) understandably believe they've successfully cheated Death, only for Carter to be killed in the shocking final scene, before Alex dies off-screen between movies.

This prompts Clear (Ali Larter) to do the smartest thing any character in the series ever has. 

In Final Destination 2, she checks herself into a psychiatric hospital where Death can't get to her. Her only mistake? Agreeing to leave in order to help the new set of victims, leading to her demise.

From there, the survivors of Final Destination 2 were killed off in a deleted scene in the third film - which, admittedly, isn't necessarily canon - after which the third, fourth, and fifth movies all ended with the "survivors" being killed after believing they'd cheated death.

Most of these characters made reasonable steps to survive, but alas, not one of them successfully made it out alive.
