10 Horror Movie Characters Who Did Everything Right And Still Failed

4. The Lamberts - Insidious

Invasion of the Body Snatchers 1978 Ending
Blumhouse

Let's give a hand to the Lambert family from the first Insidious, because as soon as they start experiencing some seriously intense paranormal phenomena, they do the thing audiences are always begging people to do - they move the Hell out.

Despite that incredibly smart and timely response, the supernatural activity continues in their new abode, prompting the family to do the next best thing - enlist the services of a psychic, Elise Rainier (Lin Shaye), and a pair of paranormal investigators.

As moving house was no longer an option to escape the entity, what else could they feasibly do?

Though father Josh (Patrick Wilson) ultimately rescues his young son Dalton (Ty Simpkins) from the purgatory realm known as The Further, Josh ends the film possessed by a parasitic spirit before returning to the physical realm. Oops.

On the longer franchise timeline you can certainly argue that the Lamberts won eventually, but in terms of the first film specifically, all their smart efforts ultimately led to a bleak outcome.
