10 Horror Movie Characters Who Did Everything Right And Still Failed

6. Lee Harker - Longlegs

Invasion of the Body Snatchers 1978 Ending
Neon

Longlegs' protagonist, FBI agent Lee Harker (Maika Monroe), acts about as rationally as one could expect in such a peculiar situation, especially once she learns that her own mother, Ruth (Alicia Witt), has been serial killer Longlegs' (Nicolas Cage) secret apprentice for decades.

In the grim climax, Lee races to save Agent Carter (Blair Underwood) and his family from being Longlegs' latest victims, but by the time she gets there, the family are already possessed.

After Carter kills his wife, Lee shoots him to protect his daughter from also being killed, and follows up by killing her own mother after she attempts to stab her.

But alas, when Lee aims her gun at the satanic doll which caused Carter to kill, she realises that she's run out of bullets.

Though the particulars of Longlegs' ending are somewhat up for debate, it's clearly not a happy ending for Lee, with director Osgood Perkins himself saying it was "about as bad as it could have turned out" for her.

Whether or not Lee is now herself under Longlegs' influence, shooting her own mother in the head is surely going to leave her traumatised for life.
