10 Horror Movie Characters Who Didn't Know They Were The Victim
7. Everybody - Tales From The Crypt
1972's Tales from the Crypt anthology film quite ingeniously hid its big twist in plain sight.
The wraparound story sees a group of five strangers visit some old catacombs and come into contact with the Crypt Keeper (Ralph Richardson), who subsequently details how each of the five will die, seemingly in the future.
These deaths include Joanne (Joan Collins) being strangled to death by a murderer on the loose, Carl (Ian Hendry) dying in a car crash, James (Robin Phillips) having his heart ripped out by a vengeful neighbour, Ralph (Richard Greene) dying of a heart attack and being resurrected as an unkillable, embalmed corpse, and William (Nigel Patrick) being eaten by his own starving dog.
After these short stories have all played out, the Cryptkeeper reveals that they weren't visions of the future but that each of them has actually already died. The film then ends with them each being led into the fiery pit of Hell.
Granted, each of these characters were absolute degenerates deserving of eternal damnation, but that doesn't mean they didn't suffer through some absolutely horrific deaths - albeit deaths they only became conscious of in retrospect.
