10 Horror Movie Characters Who Died Painful Deaths

3. Mrs. Menard - Zombie

Lucio Fulci's Zombie is one of the defining movies of an era. Along with Ruggero Deodato's Cannibal Holocaust and Wes Craven's The Last House on the Left, it is one of the most infamous movies of the 1980s 'video nasty' movement.

This unauthorised cash-in on George R. Romero's iconic Dawn of the Dead is a genuinely great zombie movie in its own right - offering up mad scientists, grotesque zombies and even an underwater fight sequence between a zombie and a shark.

But the film is perhaps best remembered for an early sequence in which the unfortunate Paolo Menard (Olga Karlatos) has an eye-watering encounter with a bloodthirsty monster. During the scuffle, poor Mrs. Mernard is dragged, face-first, into the broken-shards of a smashed-up door. Fulci doesn't flinch from his goriest gag, her eyeball gouged out by a particularly jagged piece of splintered wood.
