2. Nick - Bone Tomahawk
S. Craig Zahler's horror Western pits cowboys against cave-dwelling cannibals. When a tribe of cannibals kidnap a handful of civilians from a small town, Sheriff Hunt (Kurt Russell) leads a band of men to recover his people.
The film follows their men on their quest, with Zahler barely hinting at the atrocities to come. And then, as Hunt and the men reach their quarry, Zahler drops one of the most brutal gore sequences ever seen in a horror film.
Captured by the cannibals, Hunt and his backup deputy (Richard Jenkins) watch as the cannibals prepare their evening meal. Dragging deputy Nick (Evan Jonigkeit) from his cage, the cannibals proceed to strip the man naked and scalp him alive. Unfortunately, this is just the beginning of his ordeal.
With Nick still conscious, his scalp is nailed into his mouth, and the man is flipped onto his head. The cannibals then bisect Deputy Nick, slitting him from crotch to chest, and ripping him in two. Hunt tries to reassure the poor man that vengeance is on its way, but that doesn't make Nick any less... bisected.
