10 Horror Movie Characters Who Got Advice From THE WORST PLACE POSSIBLE

9. Lloyd Befriending Jack - The Shining

The one caveat about The Shining is that Jack Torrance is becoming consumed by insanity as part of his descent into madness at the Overlook Hotel. But still, taking advice from bartender Lloyd was undoubtedly one of the Jack's biggest mistakes in Stanley Kubrick's iconic 1980 picture.

After Jack Nicholson's character casually remarks that he'd give his soul for a drink, like magic, Lloyd appears behind the main bar of the Overlook, providing a shoulder to lean on, an ear to chew, and a non-stop flow of free booze.

Upon Jack opting to vent at Lloyd about his wife Wendy, the barkeep fires back with some ominous advice that Jack eventually ends up taking extremely literally - "Women: can't live with them, can't live without them".

The Torrance family patriarch was in the early stages of losing his grip on reality at this point in time, and the advice of Lloyd proves a pivotal part of The Shining's narrative, as it's from here on out that Jack really starts to let loose.

To pull a line from The Big Lebowski, sometimes you eat the bar, and sometimes, well, sometimes the bar he eats you. And in the case of Jack Torrance in The Shining, the bar - and its bartender - well and truly eats him.
