2016's Train to Busan is one of the most daring additions to the zombie subgenre of the 2010s, with its social commentary serving as a strong backbone for its terrifying setpieces and strong emotional hook. So impressive is its stature that its sequel could not match its high quality, and its American remake is yet to get off the ground more than eight years after the original's release.

After the bulk of the train-based carnage has occurred, protagonist Seok-woo (Gong Yoo) realises that he has been infected with the zombie-causing illness, and is slowly beginning to turn into a zombie himself. In order to save his daughter Su-an (Kim Su-an) and fellow passenger Seong-kyeong (Jung Yu-mi) from being infected, the once cynical father jumps off the train after ensuring his daughter and acquaintance are safe aboard the transport.

This act serves as the culmination for Seok-woo, who up until the events of the film was a detached workaholic who almost never cared for the wellbeing of others or took the time to understand them.
