10 Horror Movie Characters Who Had To Die To Win
3. Ofelia - Pan's Labyrinth
Without a doubt Guillermo del Toro's magnum opus, Pan's Labyrinth is a harrowing yet beautiful look into the realities of living in Francoist Spain through the eyes of a child who learns the value of disobedience as she further explores the fantastical world that serves as a brief respite from the fascistic society she lives in.
After Ofelia (Ivana Baquero) and her mother Carmen (Ariadna Gil) move to ruthless Falangist Captain Vidal (Sergi Lopez)'s home, the former begins to explore a fantasy world where she encounters the likes of the Faun and the Pale Man (both played by Doug Jones) and other mythological beings. Unfortunately, Ofelia's life in the "real world" drastically worsens, and this comes to a semi-tragic conclusion after Vidal shoots her for taking her brother away from him.
However, Ofelia's death was not in vain as she sacrificed herself to prevent harm from coming to her brother, and more importantly, ensure her ascension to her role as Princess Moanna in the fantasy underworld.
