10 Horror Movie Characters Who Knew When To Quit (But Didn't)

2. Louise - Speak No Evil

Speak No Evil is one of the most savagely provocative horror films released in recent years, revolving around a Danish couple, Bjørn (Morten Burian) and Louise (Sidsel Siem Koch), who are invited to the country home of a Dutch couple, Patrick (Fedja van Huêt) and Karin (Karina Smulders), for the weekend.

Much like Barbarian, this film is all about the perils of ignoring your gut and, to a wider point, how much people will endure simply to avoid looking impolite.

Bjørn and Louise's stay becomes increasingly uncomfortable as Patrick and Karin exhibit a gamut of unsettling behaviours, such as Patrick walking in on Louise while she showers, and him also sleeping naked with Bjørn and Louise's daughter.

At this point Louise decides she's had enough and wakes Bjørn to quietly leave the house in the middle of the night. All well and good, right?

Except, shortly after leaving Louise realises her daughter's precious rabbit doll is missing, and so returns to the house, where they're confronted by Patrick and Karin.

Rather than get the rabbit and go, Bjørn and Louise's crushing desire not to offend their hosts causes them to stay - a decision which, at film's end, leads to them both being murdered by Patrick and Karin, who have also cut out their daughter's tongue and forced her to pretend to be their own.

Louise was well aware that Patrick and Karin's vibes were seriously off, and yet her failure to heed this led to her entire family unit being annihilated.
