10 Horror Movie Characters Who Should've Been Final Girls

5. Barb Coard - Black Christmas

In Bob Clark's proto-slasher, a group of sorority sisters are left deeply unnerved after receiving phone calls from a serial killer called Billy. Fortunately, the group is held together by their most besotted member, Barb Coard (Margot Kidder).

Coming across as one-dimensional at first, Barb is an extremely layered character, which is accentuated by Kidder's powerful performance.

Due to her aggressive and cantankerous manner, it's easy to assume Barb only cares about herself. But when the caller threatens her friends, Barb snatches the phone and humiliates the creep. When Billy threatens to butcher her, she laughs it off, rallying her fraternity not to give in to fear.

But that's not all. When several students go missing (AKA murdered), Barb marches to the police station to make a report. When the cops dismiss the case, Barb goes ballistic, once again showing how loyal she is to her sorority.

Sadly, Barb’s defiant behaviour is what inspired Billy to take her out. Nevertheless, she would've made a better leading lady than Jess, who has none of the qualities of a Final Girl. The only time Jess shows initiative is when she beats Peter to death with a fire poker, under the belief he's the crazed caller.  Since this theory is later proven to be false, it's apparent Jess didn't contribute much in terms of helping her friends or bringing Billy to justice.
