10 Horror Movie Characters Who Went Through Hell (Then Died Anyway)

Released in 2009, Evil Dead director Sam Raimi’s still underrated Drag Me To Hell is a dark slice of horror comedy which satirizes the then-recent economic downturn. The film is the gruesome story of a mortgage lender who finds herself cursed by a wizened old crone when she turfs the poor old dear out on the street for a late payment.

This action soon sees her plagued by all manner of grotesque nightmares, ranging from an eye appearing in her cake, to a possessed goat, to more puke than any movie can reasonably justify. Once she knows she’s been hexed, the ostensible heroine of this subprime mortgage-satirizing film seemingly does everything right to redress this and ensure she escapes safely. There are mediums messaged, deals struck, and even a pet sacrifice.

So, what happens?

Well in a karmic twist, the same fate that befalls our protagonist is the one which was visited upon countless homeowners who also did everything right in the wake of the subprime mortgage crisis. Her life goes to hell, through no fault of her own, thanks to a cheap trick.
