10 Horror Movie Characters Who Went Through Hell (Then Died Anyway)

1. Evil Dead (2013)

Released in 2013, Don’t Breathe director Fede Alvarez’ Evil Dead remake was a complete tonal departure from the light-hearted humour of Sam Raimi’s later franchise instalments. This grim and gritty horror saw a set of ill-fated teens sojourn to a cabin in the woods in order for one of their number to go cold turkey, and that change pretty much sets the tone for how much darker this uncompromising re-imagining would be.

Particularly for one of its more unfortunate minor characters.

Lou Taylor Pucci’s Eric is the resident genius who opts to unwrap a tome that’s been thrown in multiple garbage bags, wrapped in barb wire, and hidden.

For his troubles, this intense horror sees poor Eric torn to pieces over and over again before he finally succumbs, with half the film’s runtime detailing his goofy, over-the-top, and drawn-out death. Starting with a sink splitting head impact, the guy is soon stabbed repeatedly with a syringe, shot up with a nail gun, and battered with a crowbar.

But he escapes and saves our hero from his demonic sister!

Prompting her to then stab and finally kill him.
