10 Horror Movie Characters You Totally Expected To Die... But Didn’t
9. The Unnamed Mother - The Mist
Whenever The Mist comes up in discussions, most people tend to focus on its incredibly bleak ending. And whilst it's understandable to talk about one of cinema's most impactful gut-punches, the rest of the film is chock-full of great moments, well-rounded characters, and edge-of-your-seat moments that really get one's blood pumping.
Set inside a small-town supermarket that becomes a safe-haven from a mysterious mist that's full of strange interdimensional monsters, Frank Darabont's 2008 movie gradually builds up the tension as the many residents trapped inside begin to rub each other up the wrong way with their differing opinions on what's happening and how they can survive.
One such character is listed as simply The Unnamed Mother, a character who doesn't get a whole lot of screen time in the grand scheme of things, but who becomes the focal point of a scene early on when she tearfully exclaims that she's leaving the store to go get her children. Try as the group might to stop her, she leaves the confines of the store, seemingly into imminent death.
However, once we reach The Mist's horrifying ending, it's revealed that the woman is alive, shown cradling her children and counting her lucky stars that she escaped when she did.
