10 Horror Movie Characters You Totally Expected To Die... But Didn’t
2. Tennessee Faris - Alien: Covenant
The inclusion of Danny McBride in the Alien universe certainly raised a few eyebrows when it was first announced. Whilst he's rightfully celebrated as a comedy actor, his forays into the horror genre have been mixed at best - most notably his co-writing credits on the recent Blumhouse Halloween trilogy.
A subsequent announcement that James Franco was also joining the Alien: Covenant cast did nothing to assuage fan concerns, but the Alien franchise is something of a mixed bag itself, so perhaps Covenant wouldn't be so bad after all?
Well, things got strange when Franco was barely even in the movie, as his character is burnt alive in a cryostasis pod in the film's first 15 minutes, which led many to think that McBride's ship pilot Tennessee would likely amount to a similarly pointless appearance.
However, Tennessee manages to defy those expectations set forth by his shipmate and gets a considerable amount of screentime, culminating in him being one of the two surviving members of the Covenant crew. Surviving several dangerous scenarios and brushes with the xenomorph could have very easily seen Tennessee end up like the rest of his crewmates - a blood red smear upon the metallic walls.
