10 Horror Movie Characters You Totally Expected To Die... But Didn’t

Fans of the Scream franchise were left with their jaws on the floor when Dewey was killed off in 2022's Scream, not only for its shocking brutality, but this was the first time one of the core trio had fallen to a Ghostface.

However, this shouldn't have come as too much of a surprise, as that film's whole point was to emulate the lega-sequels that had been plaguing Hollywood at the time. Most notably, the Star Wars sequel trilogy that also saw fit to bump off long-running characters. 

Going into Scream VI, fans were expecting that Gale Weathers may meet a similar fate as Dewey. And we came so very close to that being a reality, as Gale's big scene in the movie involves her being attacked in her apartment by Ghostface. 

The scene itself is incredibly tense, with Gale's desperate struggle against Ghostface being a constant back-and-forth of near-misses and brutal stabbings. Eventually, Ghostface gets the upper hand, leaving Gale to bleed out on the living room floor, seemingly dying surrounded by our new protagonists. 

Of course, this was completely undone by the film's end, with it casually mentioned that Gale survived, completely removing any power from what was a genuinely upsetting scene.
