3. Samuel Chases Margot & Chris - Paranormal Activity: Next Of Kin

Truth or Dare Ending
Paramount

Don't feel bad if you didn't even know there was a seventh Paranormal Activity movie, but indeed, Next of Kin released direct to Paramount+ back in late 2021 without any fanfare whatsoever.

The sequel revolves around a team of documentary filmmakers who, while visiting an Amish community, find themselves terrorised by the demonic entity known as Asmodeus.

At film's end, protagonists Margot (Emily Bader) and her cameraman Chris (Roland Buck III) flee the farm where all hell has broken loose and bodies have piled up.

But the closing scene shows one of the Amish settlers, Samuel (Henry Ayres-Brown), becoming possessed by the demon, forcing the arriving police officers to kill themselves, stealing their car, and then driving off into the night.

Evidently the filmmakers were hedging their bets on a direct sequel where an Asmodeus-possessed Samuel comes after Margot, who as both a relative of the Amish family and a woman, is apparently the strongest possible vessel for Asmodeus to inhabit.

Basically, Next of Kin's follow-up would've almost certainly moved the action away from the farmhouse to a more urban locale, though given that it was mostly panned by critics, failed to make a dent on streaming, and was even called "terrible" by producer Jason Blum, it's little surprise that production hasn't moved forward on a sequel.

If Next of Kin's goal was to move on from the original Paranormal Activity saga and effectively reboot the franchise for a new generation with a new demonic antagonist, then it was a catastrophic failure.
