10 Horror Movie Deaths That Could Have Been Avoided
5. Ffion and Jeremy - Apostle
A slightly more brutal entry onto this list, 'Apostle' is a period folk horror (think Wicker Man meets The VVitch) that aims to show the savage nature of 19th century cults.
The attitude towards women within this film is accurately representative of colonial style communities, as Ffion and Jeremy are two young adults that are in a secret relationship, clearly against the wishes of Ffion's father.
It's revealed to Ffion's father, Quinn, that she is pregnant. Quinn, being an archetypal misogynistic individual who perceives his control over his daughter as extending as far as her sexual life, murders her in a forced abortion. He afterward frames Jeremy for the murder, who is then killed as Quinn convinces the community to give him a 'purification' ritual, which ultimately kills him.
As both Ffion and Jeremy are aware of the values of the cult, they could have both been a bit more savvy in terms of them either hiding the pregnancy from Quinn, or concocting a plan to escape.
