9. David - Shaun Of The Dead
Okay, before going on the offensive about a certain Shaun Of The Dead character, it has to be said that the titular Shaun is not the most relatable narrator, nor is he the best guy in the world. He's lazy, unmotivated and seems doomed to stay a child forever. So it makes sense that Shaun's ex-girlfriend's friends wouldn't like him.
With that being said though, during an apocalypse, you'd think you would just let bygones be bygones, right? But that's not David's style though. And that is why, when watching Shaun Of The Dead, David's death scene is so bloody satisfying.
David is nothing but dead weight to Shaun and his crew, and that is saying something! He is whiny, argumentative, selfish and sleazy. He is so clearly in love with another man's girlfriend, whilst having a girlfriend himself! He's also completely tackless when Shaun's mum is dying from a zombie bite, arguing with them all and saying they need to kill the kind old woman. I mean, we were all thinking it, but still, not cool dude!
But filmmaker Edgar Wright knew what he was doing when writing this slime-ball of a man, because he saved the most brutal, gory death for such a special character. When David is pulled through the pub windows by zombies and has his stomach ripped apart by the hoard, you can practically hear the smug smile on Wright's face. That is, if you're not too busy cheering.
