10 Horror Movie Douchebags We Love To Hate
9. Dr. Frederick Chilton - The Silence Of The Lambs (1992)
Dr. Frederick Chilton is the top suit at the Baltimore asylum housing the infamous Hannibal Lecter and he revels in the power he now has over the legendary psychiatrist. Seeing a great chance to inflate his ego, Chilton worms his way into an active FBI investigation seeking Lecter's input.
Written as a supreme weasel in Thomas Harris' novel, the characterization is carried over faithfully here and wonderfully brought to life by actor Anthony Heald. His letchurous smile and rather pathetic attempts to flirt with Jodie Foster's Clarice Starling are toe curlingy cringy, and set in motion later catastrophic events.
Frederick Chilton doesn't take rejection well, it seems, and plots to expose the FBI's manipulation of Lecter with false promises. The Doctor's need to assert his dominance ultimately leads to Hannibal Lecter escaping his relaxed confinement and murdering six people.
Not only is Frederick Chilton a smarmy sleazebag, but he has blood on his hands all for the sake of his ego. However, the film's climax promises a nasty end for the not-so-good doctor... it's just a shame we don't see it.
