10 Horror Movie Flops That NOBODY Saw Coming

Although the Saw sequels never matched the original, it was easy money since the majority of them raked in over a hundred million. But when Saw VI made almost half of its predecessor, the studio decided the next entry would be the closing chapter.

Seven years later, a soft reboot called Jigsaw was released, hoping to reinvigorate the brand. Despite earning ten times its budget, the plug got pulled due to scathing reviews.

And yet, interest perked up when Chris Rock announced he was producing and starring in another Saw instalment called Spiral. Rather than dealing with the convoluted backstory of the previous films, Spiral told a new story and focused on a different Jigsaw. Instead of rehashing old ideas, Spiral tackled modern issues and worked more like a detective thriller.

As promising as it sounded on paper, Spiral was let down by a derivative story, an uninteresting villain, and a predictable twist. Even though it's commendable for Chris Rock to bring this passion project to life, he was terribly miscast as a hardened cop.

Spiral ultimately earned $40 million, which was less than any other instalment. Despite the fact Spiral was meant to mark a new bold direction for the franchise, the only direction it went is in the trash.
