10 Horror Movie Franchises That Never Seem To End
8. The Texas Chain Saw Massacre
Considered one of the all time great horrors that shocked the world in 1974, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre ended up becoming an unlikely franchise that has been on one hell of a journey. When you look back, it's clear nobody could make their mind up on what to do with the Chainsaw series, with it's jumping back and forth in timelines with each release.
Tobe Hooper directed the first film, then the sequel twelve years later. Another two sequels followed in 1990 and 1997 respectively, ending with the lambasted The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation.
In 2003 the series was rebooted, but instead of a sequel it got a prequel in 2006. Then Texas Chainsaw 3D came out in 2013 which was a direct sequel to the first film, and when Leatherface came out in 2017 that was a prequel to the first film.
If all that wasn't confusing enough, we now have another Chainsaw film due in 2021 which is a sequel. To which one, we just don't know yet. As the longest running franchise in this list, it's clear there is still a desire for Leatherface to rev his chainsaw even forty-six years after he hit the screen.
