10 Horror Movie “Mistakes” That Were Totally Intentional
5. The Visible Camera Crew - Planet Terror
Robert Rodriguez's Planet Terror - his contribution to the two-part B-movie homage project Grindhouse - opens with a memorable sequence in which stripper Cherry Darling (Rose McGowan) performs a sexy dance routine at the club where she works.
While you're evidently supposed to be captivated by McGowan's dancing, if you look behind her you might notice that the movie's crew are very obviously visible in the reflection of the gigantic, wall-length mirrors behind the actress.
The lighting rig used to light the scene is especially easy to spot, but if you keep your eyes peeled you'll also notice some crew members standing around.
And while this might sound like a slam-dunk mistake, it's actually totally deliberate.
Given that Planet Terror was devised as a tongue-in-cheek homage to trashy, rough-around-the-edges exploitation cinema, Rodriguez peppered the film with many intentional continuity errors to better reflect the tawdry quality of real Grindhouse films.
And above all else, there's simply no way that any filmmaker would make such a blatant mistake accidentally - McGowan is literally dancing in front of a huge series of mirrors, and the first thing any director or cinematographer would consider is how to shoot it without catching the crew in the reflections.
