10 Horror Movie “Mistakes” That Were Totally Intentional
3. Mari Moves... Despite Being Dead - The Last House On The Left (1972)
Wes Craven strikes again, this time with his legendary 1972 debut, The Last House on the Left. After being raped and tortured, protagonist Mari Collingwood (Sandra Peabody) is shot and killed by psychotic criminal Krug (David Hess), only for her corpse to be discovered by her parents.
Here's where things get a little weird - despite Mari being very much dead, and the parents verbally confirming as much, we can blatantly see Mari moving around and breathing.
This is because the scene was originally a little different and, for reasons unknown, Craven decided to reconfigure things in the editing room.
As initially filmed, Mari survived being shot long enough to identify her killer to her parents, but Craven changed his mind during post-production and so had to basically awkwardly fudge the fact in the edit, cutting around actress Sandra Peabody's movements as much as possible while dubbing in dialogue about her being dead.
In a more technically robust movie it might stick out more, but given the rough-hewn nature of the entire production, it feels less egregious.
