10 Horror Movie Mysteries That Will Never Leave You

While exploring the themes of Alex Garland's Men, it's tough to know where to start. In this British folktale, widow Harper Marlowe travels to a village to deal with the recent suicide of her husband, James. While there, she's chastised by the locals, who inexplicably all share the same face.

Things quickly go from odd to surreal to nightmarishly kaleidoscopic, when Harper finds herself being hounded by a rapist vicar, a green-skinned entity, a boy giving birth, and her dead husband, who's vomited up by her landlord.

Because all the men have an identical visage, it's heavily implied they are all the same individual. If this is the case, it's still vague what this entity wants. Because Harper blames herself for James' suicide, the shapeshifting creature may be testing her or punishing her. Due to its sadistic manner, it's hard to tell if this nebulous being is trying to destroy Harper or help her process her grief (in it's own very, very twisted way).

Although viewers desperately want to understand the hidden meanings behind Men, it feels like no explanation will ever be satisfactory.
