10 Horror Movie Plots You Won’t Believe Actually Exist

8. A Killer Tire With Psychic Powers - Rubber

Rubber Movie 2010

The Quentin Dupieux movie Rubber is about an evil tire with psychic powers, and it's one of the most insane things you'll ever see.

You'd expect this to be sort of a modern B-movie with a tire rolling around murdering everyone, but the film is actually far stranger than that. There are long stretches that are just the tire silently moving along. It crushes trash on the street by intensely vibrating and causing it to explode, and then later it progresses to blowing up cows and people's heads. Oh, the tire is named Robert, by the way. Yes, it has a name.

The rest of the film is this really weird meta commentary, opening with a character talking directly to the camera about things that happen in movies for no reason, basically stating the thesis that this is a film celebrating nonsense and not having any reason. To add to this, there are then a bunch of characters with binoculars watching the events of the movie as some sort of weird stand ins for the audience.

It's a truly bizarre premise, but while it's obviously supposed to be intentionally strange, the whole thing is also oddly self-serious. The last thing you'd expect from a killer tire movie is a heavy handed message, but there you go.
