10 Horror Movie Puzzles You Would Never Survive
5. Escape The Giant Scary Rubik's Cube - Cube
I would never live it down if, on a list about puzzles and mazes and the sort, I failed to mention the infamous Cube. Released in 1997, it is undeniably an incredibly nineties film. In all its gore and terror it is campy and, in spite of itself, a little comical - earning it a cult classic status today.
A format that has no doubt inspired many more modern horrors, the film sees a group of strangers wake up in a strange cube-shaped room. Many of the rooms contain traps which are activated in various ways, meaning that the end-game for this situation is not only to eventually find a way out, but to find a formula for knowing which cubes will be rigged with traps along the way.
The only way to come to a conclusive answer is to test theories, and when you’re playing with your lives the stakes are rather high. Get it wrong and you could be sprayed in the face with acid, be crushed to death or be killed in all manner of other gruesome ways.
Even with a mathematics student, a savant who is incredibly mathematically gifted and the very man who designed the outside of the cube structure, many of the film’s characters die along the way at the mercy of the cube as they can’t figure it all out. Given this, the chances of you and I being able to work our way through that bad-boy and live to tell the tale are extremely low, even if I did get an A in GCSE maths.
