10 Horror Movie Reboots (And Scoring How Successful They Were)

5. Poltergeist (2015)

Child's Play 2019 Chucky
20th Century Fox

2015's Poltergeist is a great example of an adequate remake of a beloved film; the film fails to improve on the original in any meaningful way, which begs the question: why bother?

Maybe it’s enough to remake a film simply to help find a new audience, but if that was the goal then the movie failed, especially with comparing Poltergeist's box office performance to some of the other reboots featured on this list.

In 2019, rumours surfaced that the Russo Brothers (most famous for their work in the MCU) might get a crack at yet another remake of Poltergeist, but that project appears to have been side-lined for now. Instead, Joe Russo has spoken of his preference for adapting Poltergeist into a television series.

A TV series would be a good option to reboot the property, allowing for a slower build to induce more dread in the viewer - something the 2015 movie was lacking in.
