10 Horror Movie Remakes Better Than You Remember
7. Silent House (2011)
While she's a household name now, back in the early 2010s Elizabeth Olsen was something of an indie darling, starring in well received dramas such as Martha Marcy May Marlene and this underseen horror remake, Silent House.
Released only a year after the Uruguayan original, this American version sticks close to what came before, similarly telling the tale of a woman (Olsen) being hunted around a large family home.
It sounds like a regular home invasion flick, but the twist here is that Silent House plays out in real time, with the filmmaking engineered to make it look like all 87 minutes were captured in one continuous take.
The gimmick does wear a bit thin after a while, but it also makes for some innovative scares, and endears you to Olsen's protagonist as you're with her virtually every step of the way.
There are a few surprises in there too, and it's certainly an experiment worth appreciating.
