10 Horror Movie Remakes Better Than You Remember
6. The Crazies (2010)
The second George A. Romero remake on this list, The Crazies was so clearly an attempt to follow in the footsteps of another successful Romero remake, that being Dawn of the Dead '04.
Both stick to the basics of the source material, however throw away the slower, more methodical pace in favour of fast-paced action, more overtly ghoulish monsters and a Hollywood, blockbuster sheen. Hell, both even begin with a haunting late-period Johnny Cash song that ominously sets the tone.
Just because it's not the most original remake doesn't mean it's not enjoyable though. About a local Sheriff (played by the always impressive Timothy Olyphant) who attempts to get his family to safety after a mysterious virus infects his small town, The Crazies is an enjoyable ride brimming with suspense.
The slower, more ambiguous nature of the original is lost here, but the popcorn fun that replaces it is always entertaining.
