10 Horror Movie Scenes You Didn't See (Thanks To Test Audiences)

1. Hercules Is Castrated - Freaks (1932)

And finally, we have Tod Browning's classic 1932 horror film Freaks, which was significantly cut down from its original 90-minute form to just 64 minutes due to test audiences complaining that its depiction of disabled individuals was "grotesque" and unsettling.

Surely the most infamous scene to get the, er, chop, was one that occurs shortly after Hercules (Henry Victor) is captured by the "freaks."

In the 90-minute cut, it's revealed that they turned Hercules into a castrato after capturing him - that is, they cut his balls off - as is revealed when his voice is shown to be that of a tenor.

Considering the 64-minute film is hardly demure and restrained as it is, there's certainly an argument to be made that Browning should've been allowed to deliver his full, unhinged vision.

At the same time though, it just clearly way, way too much for audiences of almost 90 years ago to handle.
