The shorter, less dramatic name is just The Conjuring 3, and it’s a straightforward sequel to the previous two Conjuring movies. It is also going to be the first of the franchise to not have James Wan sat in the director’s chair, instead this time around working as a co-producer with Peter Safran.

Once again following Ed and Lorraine Warren, we’re looking back through the case files to one specific young boy and an exceptional circumstance. Warner Bros have revealed that the film will be looking at the first time in US history that demonic possession was used a defence in a murder trial.

A quick Google will tell you this is the trial of Arne Cheyenne Johnson, also known as the ‘devil made me do it’ trial. Go figure. In 1981, Johnson was convicted of first-degree manslaughter for killing his landlord after apparently being possessed by a demon recently exorcised from the body of a young boy.

Of course, this defence didn’t actually work because real life isn’t the movies- but at least it makes for a pretty interesting story and another fascinating entry into the Warrens’ casebook.
