Starting development in 2018 after the box-office success of the first one, and then having its release delayed twice since, we now finally have less than a year to wait until we can get our fix of the next instalment.

The official synopsis directs our attentions past the creatures that dominated the first film and toward the other horrors that await the family in their post-apocalyptic world, whilst the trailers and teasers hint at a potential alliance being made with a mysterious man in a hat.

“The people that are left,” he warns, “are not people worth saving.” It’s the classic dystopian trope: after any monster apocalypse you’re eventually gonna end up in more trouble with the people left than the monsters themselves: because whilst monsters are just bloodthirsty, people are evil.

It’s directed again by John Krasinski, who himself is set appear on screen too. Unfortunately his on-screen appearances will be limited to flashbacks - after all, we all know he died a horrible death last time around…
