10 Horror Movie Sequels We Didn't Want (But Got Anyway)
2. Alone In The Dark II (2008)
If your movie is considered one of "the worst of all time," does it really require a sequel?
Uwe Boll's 2005 abomination Alone in the Dark has become the butt of so many jokes. The movie was so poorly received that very few of the cast and crew involved escaped unscathed and it was quickly disowned by many.
So, why on earth was a sequel pushed out in 2008? Alone in the Dark II stars Lance Henriksen as an ancient warlock forced to do battle with his longtime witch nemesis after she is resurrected for bloody revenge.
This film is completely unrelated to the infamous 2005 original, but that doesn't make it any better. Despite boasting a cast comprised entirely of recognisable faces in horror cinema, everyone here is simply phoning their performance in. Chief among them is Henriksen who seems perpetually bored and bothered by the fact he has to deliver lines.
Little thought or care is given to a very muddled script and the cinematography on show makes that of Boll's original seem award winning. Although marked as a slight improvement by critics, Alone in the Dark II is without doubt a purposely bad film, made solely to cash in on its predecessor's infamy.
Thankfully it seems this ploy didn't work as few are even aware the sequel exists and it died a painful death rotting in DVD bargain bins.
